Ghost in the Shell Online Gets New Name, New Trailer and Closed BETA
Excellent news today, folks! Developer Hardsuit Labs has released the latest trailer for their free-to-play online FPS, Blacklight: Retribution. The trailer showcases their new mod, called “Ghost in the Shell: First Assault” – which re-skins the game’s characters and weapons to fit the post-cyberpunk aesthetics of the beloved anime.
What’s that? This isn’t a Blacklight mod? This is an entirely new game built from the ground up around the Ghost in the Shell franchise?
Currently under development by Neople – the studio that brought you the classic 2009 PC beat ’em up, Dungeon Fighter Online – Ghost in the Shell: First Assault is a free-to-play online FPS that marries futuristic, cyberpunk technology with stylish, fast-paced tactical combat. It was originally revealed at G-STAR 2014 game exhibition in South Korea as “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: First Connection” and has been in development since 2011.
And I’m pretty excited for it.
Does it look like it borrows a little heavily from Blacklight? Sure. But there’s nothing wrong with that – that game is solid. Would I want to see a version of Blacklight set in the world of 2030’s Japan and play as the Section 9 team? Absolutely.
Just put me behind Batou’s eyes and the Major in my ears. Anything this game does with the Tachikoma or cyberbrain hacking or the Laughing Man will be icing on the cake.
Watch the new trailer below and join Section 9 for a chance to participate in the closed BETA now.
